Tessa Gray, with her steely grey-blue eyes and thick brown hair, happens to epitomise the very of ideal of a beauty with brains.

From home to haven, Tessa's courage and patience is worthy of mention. Orphaned at the young age of three and captured much later, while in pursuit of her brother, Tessa finds herself at the London Institute when she is found by the shadowhinters. Tall for her age, she also manages to rise above expectations out of sheer will. Initially a scare, immortality would prove to mould her experience in ways we couldn't fathom of.

Throughout the series Tessa steadily maintains kind and heartfelt equations with all her fellows and while this in itself is moving, her undeniable chemistry with both William Herondale and James Carstairs are highly commendable.

Some of Tessa's unforgettable lines are:

-"Only the very weak-minded refuse to be influenced by literature and poetry."

-"If no one in the entire world cared about you, did you really exist at all?"

-"Men may be stronger, but it is women that endure."

-"One must always be careful of books, and what's inside them, for books have the power to change us."

Though commendable in her antics, will Tessa ease herself into into the Shadow realm or will she be left at a crossroads? Could she possibly trust one with her heart without breaking the other's? Or shall it all come to a tragic end?

To find out more, take a look at The Infernal Devices series.
